MiSTer.ini profiles¶
MiSTer.ini controls low-level MiSTer video, audio, controller, and system behavior. These reviewed profiles are starting points for common MiSTer Addons hardware configurations.
Back up your existing configuration
Rename or copy your current MiSTer.ini before replacing it. Preserve any personal controller, network, video, or core-specific settings you still need.
Install a profile¶
- Download the profile that matches your hardware and display.
- Rename the downloaded file to
MiSTer.ini. - Copy it to the root of the MiSTer SD card at
/media/fat/MiSTer.ini. - Restart the active core or reboot MiSTer.
- Confirm the display locks to the selected timing before making further changes.
These files are intentionally conservative starting points. Compare them with your previous configuration and keep any personal settings that are still appropriate.

Settings you will see often¶
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
direct_video=2 |
Normal automatic setting for MiSTer Addons video hardware. The hosted profiles already carry it; users normally should not change it. |
vga_mode=rgb |
Normal/default analog-output mode for RGB, RGBS, VGA, and component profiles. |
vga_mode=svideo |
The manual exception: select this for YC output such as S-Video or composite video. |
composite_sync=1 |
Normal/default combined-sync setting for equipment that expects RGBS. |
video_mode |
Forces a display timing when automatic EDID selection is not appropriate. |
controller_unique_mapping |
Keeps mappings separated by controller identity when enabled. |
Note
Hardware, MiSTer main, and core behavior can evolve. The docs-hosted profiles are the reviewed versions; update them here first, then let the internal knowledge base inherit the public-safe information.
